Loved reading this, and thank you for sharing with such honesty! I started my freelance career and transitioned from part-time to full-time all around the same time as you and share so many of these feelings! I'm also feeling like I'm on the precipice of something new at the moment. I'm not really sure what that is yet, but I'm excited to find out!
i cant imagine the uncertainty of doing freelance work. it sounds like it takes a lot of bravery to pursue it, with not knowing what the future holds. i really enjoyed hearing your past experiences and how motherhood is molding and changing it. i'm sure whatever you pursue will be just as awesome as your past work, even if in a different way or dynamic.
"The process of letting go of old perspectives on myself and who I am as as photographer is terrifying but I know something rewarding lies ahead."
A powerful statement. I think there is a lot to outgrow in this industry as things keep moving fast and photography becomes so accessible, AI tech, publications battle to stay relevant/still publishing, etc..
Outgrowing some parts of the industry is like trying outgrowing an old sweater. there's so much familiarity with the old but its just not comfortable and it doesn't look good too lol
Always appreciate your openness and honesty about navigating this industry.
Your note about weaving together your past and present self (before and after becoming a mother) resonates with me deeply. Thank you for sharing.
thank you so much!
