Thank you so much for your honesty Hannah! I'm not a photographer, but as a fellow freelancer I've been feeling the waves of pessimism about my career as well. Sending you strength and solidarity!

Also I'm listening to the Ezra Klein podcast episode about unlearning anxiety now (much needed), thank you and thank you Cindy!

It’s awesome you’re so honest about how you’re feeling- I feel like so many can resonate with you. Hoping the industry can change for the better to support photographers.

Your honesty is so refreshing; thank you, and I'm sorry that you're struggling because your work is incredible. I've felt similarly about trying to "make it" as an independent photographer. Chasing down that kind of work (and even doing the work, sometimes) was weighing me down more than it lifted me up, and it ultimately just wasn't compatible with the way I wanted to show up as a mom. I don't know about "balance"--that's such a fuzzy, moving target--but I'm a lot more content and less stressed. I am also so encouraged by Deanna Dikeman and Melissa O'Shaughnessy, women who have been able to fully lean into their photography in the seasons after their kids left the nest. I hope you find you find your own place of peace with this, too.
